Motto: 'Thorough'

AIMS

To provide the means for members to enjoy the company of other Scholars and thus to gain an insight into other professions and stimulus for their own thinking.

To provide friendship for student Scholars and beginners in their professions.

To provide for discussion of a projected career and of problems arising later.

To cultivate the memory of the first Earl Kitchener of Khartoum and Broome.

To receive a higher education scholarship award from the Lord Kitchener National Memorial Fund is recognition of character and achievement. The Kitchener Scholars' Association, which had been formed by 1921 by those first to receive the grant, is a way for the Scholars to network together, benefit from each others' experiences and maintain contact, while perpetuating the memory of the first Lord Kitchener.

As well as encouraging Scholars to meet at university and in regional areas, the KSA also organise a number of formal and informal gatherings for Scholars each year including an Annual Dinner, a Memorial Service at St. Paul's Cathedral followed by a gathering hosted by the present Lord Kitchener, and on Remembrance Sunday a simple ceremony takes place on Horse Guards' Parade where a wreath is laid at the statue of the first Lord Kitchener.

Contact between Scholars is maintained not only through private functions but also through such publications as 'The Kitchener Scholar', an annual magazine, the 'London Newsletter', which focuses on events in and around the London area, and of course the Kitchener Scholars' Association web site. These methods of contact act as a forum for Scholars' news and ideas, as communication for Scholars who may live in isolation from other members and also as a meeting place for sympathetic discussion and guidance on such matters as careers.

In 1982, after two years of collating information on the members of the KSA, a Register of Members was produced. This is continually updated with regard to members' careers, whereabouts and contact details, and at present contains over six hundred names. A database of the register is available at a small charge to all members of the Association, where you may find information and also update your own details. Please e-mail the webmaster for further details.
